NGAUS Washington Report
(Sept. 3, 2013) Karen Cagle, a 13-year member of the Alabama National Guard, joins the NGAUS staff today as principal deputy director of membership, marketing and development.
Cagle, who is a second lieutenant, spent the past year as executive officer for the director of intelligence at the National Guard Bureau.
She takes charge of a new position at the association’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.
“It was a way to tie in a lot of my past experiences,” she said, “and continue my passion for military service.”
Cagle has worked as sales manager of a jewelry store in Montgomery, Ala., and was member services supervisor for the Retirement Systems of Alabama, which handles pensions for thousands of Alabamans. She has a bachelor’s degree in resource management and a master’s of business administration degree from Troy University. She is working another master’s degree in conflict resolution at The University of Alabama.
She will focus much of her effort on membership, using social media and other tools to reach out to company-grade officers “to build lifelong members to ensure the benefits for Guardsmen are not only maintained but increased.”
She will also be involved in producing the defense industry trade show that is part of the annual NGAUS conference.
“Sales come natural to me,” she said.
