NGAUS Staff Member Familiar with Service

Washington Report

(April 29, 2014) Brian Fornasar, 31, has joined the NGAUS communications department as the public affairs assistant.  He'll handle the NGAUS awards program, website maintenance and more.

Fornasar, a native of the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, N.Y., joins NGAUS after working as a communications associate at Scott Circle Communications in Washington, D.C.  He is a graduate of Texas Tech University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in public relations and a master's degree in mass communications with a concentration in sports and media.

His strong family background in service, both in the military and with the New York Police Department and the Fire Department of New York, was a driving force behind applying for the job, Fornasar says.

"The opportunity to be involved in something that was very service oriented and helping our men and women in the military, in the National Guard, is something I'm looking forward to," he says.

Working on the awards program in particular, he says, is a chance to recognize Guard members or civilians who have gone above and beyond.

In addition to working as a communications associate, Fornasar has interned with the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League and the Texas Tech athletic department. He's also worked as the night manager for a bail bond company in Lubbock, Texas.

His diverse background is something that he's looking forward to seeing in others on the staff, he says.

"I'm excited to work with different people with different backgrounds, learning what everyone does and furthering the goals of NGAUS."
