NGAUS Washington Report
(Dec. 10, 2013) NGAUS has hired a veteran Guardsman to serve as the association’s industry liaison. Kathleen Cyphert will develop relationships with industry leaders and small businesses, and work to increase NGAUS’ corporate memberships.
Cyphert joined the staff this week after working for TSM Corporation as the director of program development, where she was instrumental in making the company a corporate member of NGAUS.
Cyphert was in the Ohio Air National Guard for 30 years before recently making the switch to the D.C. Air National Guard. Cyphert also has served as a military education officer and has policy experience at both the Pentagon and the National Guard Bureau.
The opportunity to combine skills and knowledge from each experience is a highlight of the NGAUS industry liaison position, she says.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to learn about the synchronization between the legislative shop, industry and business,” Cyphert says. “How do all of these components come together to help the Guard overall?”
Cyphert received her undergraduate degree from Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio. She went on to earn an MBA from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where she concentrated in international economics and leadership. She has also attended various military schools.
She says she’s excited about this next step, and welcomes the opportunity to work with an association that’s been on her radar “for a while.”
Working with NGAUS, she adds, allows her a unique opportunity to contribute in another way to the force that’s been a cornerstone of her life for more 30 years.
"I've been a drilling guardsman most of my career and remember what that's like," she says. "This allows me to stay connected to the Guard. I'd be lost without it."
