Capitol Hill Veteran Joins NGAUS Staff

NGAUS Washington Report

(Dec. 3, 2013) Rebecca Autrey, 25, has joined the NGAUS communications department as a staff writer. She will contribute to NATIONAL GUARD magazine and other products, as well as increase the association’s utilization of social media.

Autrey, a native of Bethesda, Md., joined the staff this week after serving as deputy press secretary for Sen. Bill Nelson, a Florida Democrat. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin where she studied journalism and legal studies.

“I’d wanted to get into national security and defense for a while,” Autrey said when asked about why she applied for the position. It allows her to combine her communications skills with an area of interest, she said.

Autrey will concentrate on social media. The association plans to increase its use of that tool in reaching out to members and communicating its efforts in the nation’s capital.

“It’s a way to quickly get information to people,” Autrey said. “There’s a lot that can be done with it.”
