NATIONAL GUARD magazine is the monthly publication of NGAUS and is mailed to approximately 40,000 officers in the Air and Army National Guard. In addition to members of NGAUS, the publication reaches governors, senators and representatives in Congress, other government agencies and the defense industry. NATIONAL GUARD magazine is the only audited BPA publication that reaches this audience.

The magazine publishes articles of interest on legislation and developments affecting the National Guard in Congress and in the Department of Defense. In addition, each column such as Washington Update provides items of interest from Congressional activities and summarizes news and legislation affecting Guard members, such as new regulations or policies from the Army or Air Force.

In addition to monthly dedicated features, the departments in every issue include: Starting Point, Mail Call, Washington Update, Sound Bites, Newsbreaks, State Round-Up, and Association News.
