Are you ready for NGAUS 2012?

We sure are, and we hope to see you in Reno, Nevada as we gather with fellow National Guard men and women from all 50 States, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the District of Columbia.

This year's conference theme is "The National Guard: Hometown Force, Global Reach." During the day, you’ll hear from guest speakers from the Pentagon and Congress during business sessions, learn about the state of the Army and Air Force in separate sessions, have an opportunity to attend a variety of professional development workshops, and discover the latest products and services in the largest defense industry trade show that caters to the National Guard.

The nearly 4,000 registered attendees will have the opportunity to attend presentations by Gen. Raymond T. Odierno, the Army chief of staff; and Gen. Carter F. Ham, the commanding general of U.S. Africa Command, Sept. 10. The business agenda Sept. 11 features speeches by Gen. Mark A. Welsh III, the Air Force chief of staff; Gen. Craig R. McKinley, the National Guard Bureau chief; Lt. Gen. Frank J. Grass, who will be promoted to four stars and take over at NGB on Sept. 7; and Arnold L. Punaro, the chairman of the Reserve Forces Policy Board. Gen. David M. Rodriguez, the commanding general of Army Forces Command, will speak at the Army separate session Sept. 12. On the same day, retired Gen. Ronald R. Fogleman, a former Air Force chief of staff, will speak at the Air separate session; and Jessica Wright, the assistant secretary of defense for reserve affairs, will address the final business session.

President Barack Obama and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, have been invited to speak. Their participation will not be known until closer to the event.

Delegates representing the 54 states and territories will also vote on the NGAUS FY14 Legislative Objectives, from which we'll set our lobbying priorities and agenda for the next year.

When the sun sets, spend your evenings with your comrades at various events, including the Governor’s Reception, hospitality night, and the All States Dinner.

The NGAUS Conference is an excellent place for networking with your peers and for keeping up to date on all that NGAUS is doing to serve its members and the National Guard as a whole.
